From Scenic Views to Challenging Courses: What Makes Michigan’s Treetops Stand Out?
Whether you’re looking for tough courses or breathtaking scenery, Treetops has both. Michigan is a golfer's paradise. What sets many Michigan golf resorts — especially Treetops — apart from others is the breathtaking scenery that surrounds them.
The rolling hills, grasslands, and forests of Northern Michigan seem made for golf, so serious golfers can enjoy stunning views while indulging in their favorite sport. We couldn’t state it any better than Golfing magazine, who praised Treetops for our “exciting and challenging championship golf, spectacular terrain with dramatic views, contours, and rolling hills as far as the eye can see.” Climate is a bonus as well. The town of Gaylord is perfectly situated in the heart of Northern Michigan to take advantage of the region’s long golf season, which typically runs from April to October.
Treetops courses range from challenging to championship level. They include:
- Smith Tradition: Our most player-friendly course, designed by famed instructor and designer Rick Smith.
Holes: 18 | Par: 70 | Rating: 70.0 | Yardage: 6,354
- Smith Signature: Narrow fairways and sloping mounds take the difficulty up a level.
Holes: 18 | Par: 70 | Rating: 70.0 | Yardage: 6,354
- Fazio Premier: Things get trickier on Tom Fazio’s only Michigan golf course.
Holes: 18 | Par: 72 | Rating: 73.3 | Yardage: 6,832
- Smith Threetops: Big elevation changes make Rick Smith’s original course one of the top par-3 courses in the country.
Holes 9 | Par: 27 | Yardage: 1,435
- Jones Masterpiece: This is it. Treetops’ ultimate challenge, with deep ravines, numerous sand traps, and tough pin placements.
Holes: 18 | Par: 71 | Rating: 74.8 | Yardage: 7,068
Michigan's top-rated courses have hosted major tournaments and have attracted some of the biggest names in golf. At Treetops, you’ll golf in the footsteps of legends like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino.
We host the following tournaments:
- We're Open Open

Secluded, Yet Easy to Access Resort

Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City makes it easy to fly to Northern Michigan. Cherry Capital is serviced by American, Delta, and United Airlines, which provide nonstop and one-stop flights in and out of TVC.
