Traditional Stay and Play
If you only have time for a quick trip, the Traditional Stay and Play package is all you need. You’ll get one night in our lodge and a round of golf with a cart on our player-friendly Tradition course.
About Treetops’ Rick Smith Tradition Course: While all of our courses at Treetops are challenging, if you’re looking for our most player-friendly course, this is it. Tradition has less dramatic changes in elevation, wider fairways, and a more natural landscape than the other courses on the property. Four tee box options and few hidden shots make for an enjoyable round of golf.

Premier Stay and Play
The Premier Stay and Play package is another good choice for quick trips to get away and play a little golf. Enjoy a night in the Treetops Lodge and a round of golf on the Premier course.
About Treetops’ Tom Fazio Premier Course: The only golf course in Michigan designed by the famous golf course architect Tom Fazio, Premier is a special treat for Michigan golfers. With steep slopes and plenty of dogleg turns, Premier challenges even the most seasoned players.

For a more comprehensive Treetops golf experience, consider the Championship Stay and Play package. If your group wants to escape for a little longer and play a lot of golf, this is the getaway you need. The Championship package includes lodging for two nights and four rounds of golf on any of our 18-hole courses, including the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Masterpiece Course and the Rick Smith Signature Course, or our nine-hole course, Threetops.
About Treetops’ Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Masterpiece Course: Treetops’ first course as well as its longest, Masterpiece is widely considered the most challenging course at Treetops; some say it’s the most challenging in Michigan. At a golf resort known for its great views, the vistas from Masterpiece might be the most breathtaking.

Treetops History: The First Course
Treetops led the way of the Northern Michigan golf course construction boom in the 1980s and 1990s. It began in 1983, when Jackson, Michigan businessman Harry Melling purchased what was then the Sylvan Knob Ski Area, the property on which Treetops Resort is now located. After purchasing the resort, Melling began to think of ways he could utilize the property and generate income from Michigan’s warm summers. The answer: build golf courses to keep the property busy outside of ski season. And who better to hire for the job than one of the most influential figures in golf at the time, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. In a career that spanned nearly 70 years, Jones was one of the most prolific builders of links in the 20th century, designing 450 golf courses around the world between the 1930s and 1990s — including Treetops’ Masterpiece.
Masterpiece opened in 1987, and with Jones’ trademark “difficult par, easy bogey” layout, challenging elevation changes, breathtaking views, and forced carries, it won many accolades, including second best new resort course by Golf Digest. It remains one of the most exhilarating courses in the state, with a rating of 75.5 and a slope of 144.
